BrennerCongress

The 5th BrennerCongress takes place at the same time and in cooperation with the trade fair Viatec from 15th to the 17th of February, 2012, in Innsbruck. The international symposium was previously held in Innsbruck in the years 2007, 2008 and 2010 and in Bolzano in the year 2011.

On both days, international experts speak on a number of topics regarding the construction, operation and maintenance of railways and roads. The first presentation block is dedicated to the construction of railway infrastructures, as well as conflict management and dispute settlement during the course of the infrastructure development. The progress of the Brenner base tunnel will be discussed right at the beginning, before the manager responsible for the Gotthard base tunnel project illustrates the challenges that are involved in this technical construction operation.

Furthermore, insights will be given into the topic of dispute settlement of the Unterinntal project and information is provided on experiences regarding dispute settlement procedures at large construction sites of the ÖBB. The BrennerCongress will subsequently deal with the issue of conflict management and dispute settlement in both small and large-scale public construction projects. Tyrolean and international experts will present various solutions from Switzerland, Germany and Austria. The first day of congress is rounded off by a panel discussion in which representatives of contracting authorities, contractors and engineering offices will participate.

A focal point of the second day of congress is TBM’s tunnel driving operations. The speakers report on current developments in the area of mechanical engineering. Contemporary expert presentations on the topic of construction in the alpine regions are held parallel to the TBM presentations.

Researchers will illuminate the topic of natural hazards such as water and avalanches, whereby they will talk about the various mountain torrent and avalanche protection barriers in North and South Tyrol, as well as in other European regions. The congress is held under the scientific direction of University Professor Konrad Bergmeister from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, and University Professor Walter Purrer from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Leopold Franzens University, Innsbruck.
